KDE Boosts Wayland Support, Revamps Interface

In the latest report on the development of KDE, Nate Graham, a developer involved in quality control in the KDE project, highlighted the upcoming changes for KDE Plasma 6.4. One of the key updates includes improved Wayland support in the composite manager Kwin, which now incorporates the stable version of the Wayland protocol exte-data-control. This allows users to manage data processing for managers of the Buffer of the Exchange. Additionally, relative positioning on graphic tablets has been added in Wayland, enabling the stylus position to be determined with respect to the previous position rather than the absolute position on the tablet surface. The update also includes the ability to control the graphic cursor using the keyboard while working with Wayland.

Another enhancement in the KDE Plasma 6.4 release is the addition of tags for recently installed programs in the Kickoff application menu.

Furthermore, a warning will now be displayed when attempting to access a microphone from an application if the microphone is set to silent mode in the settings.

In Kmenucheedit, users now have the option to configure the constant launch of selected applications on a discrete GPU.

A new “Animation” section has been introduced in the configurator, where the settings of animated effects have been transferred. The desktop effects section now includes general effects unrelated to the visualization of transitions from one state to another.

Changes have also been made to notifications when opening applications in full-screen mode. Instead of ignoring non-critical notifications, the “do not disturb” mode is automatically activated while working with full-screen programs. After exiting full-screen mode, a notification will be displayed regarding any missed notifications. Users have the option to disable this new behavior in the settings.
