Microsoft has recently released the Microsoft C/C++ Extension (MS-VSCODE.CPPTOOLS) update, causing disruptions in the open-source community using the Visual Studio Code editor. This extension, designed to enhance support for C/C++ languages in VS Code, has led to compatibility issues for users of VS Codium and Cursor, both based on the VS Code platform.
Upon attempting to initialize the extension, users were met with an error message indicating that the Microsoft C/C++ Extension package is only compatible with Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio for Mac, Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, and other related Microsoft products and services. To continue working on C/C++ projects, users have had to revert to older versions and disable automatic extension installation in the settings.
