Phosh 0.46.0: GNOME Interface for Smartphones

Published release phosh 0.46, screen shell for mobile devices based on GNOME technology and GTK library. The environment was originally developed by Purism as an analogue of Gnome Shell for the Librem 5 smartphone, but then it became one of the unofficial GNOME projects and is used in postmarketos, Mobian, Drudian, some firmware for Pine64 devices, and Fedora editors for smartphones. Phosh utilizes the composite server phoc, operating on top of Wayland, as well as its own screen keyboard squeekboard. The project’s components are distributed under the license GPLv3+.


In the new issue:

  • Provides the possibility of showing a background image when blocking the screen.
  • Added animation when notification resolves screen gesture.
  • In the multimedia player, loading of music album covers is now available.
  • In the indicators area, the processing of voids where the front camera is located has been implemented.
  • Improved feedback effect when pressing keys.
  • In the falling panels with quick settings, an indication of the search for wireless networks has been added.
  • Interface layout files have been simplified and preparations for the transition to GTK4 have been made.
  • In the composite PHOC server, support for Wayland Protocols was added Ext-Foreign-Toplevel-Info and Alpha-Modifier-V1. Animation of the operation process (rotating spinner) has been implemented. Transparency in the windows of applications using X11 is now allowed.
