Cachyos 250330 Launch: Core Boost with Optimization

The distribution Cachyos 250330 has been released, based on the ARCH package database Linux, with a continuous delivery model for updates. Known for its optimizations in productivity and multiple desktop options, the distribution offers installations based on KDE, gnome, xfce, i3wm, Wayfire, LXQT, OpenBox, Cinnamon, Cosmic, Ukraine, Lxde, Mate, Budgie, Qtile, Hyprland and Sway. The ISO-image size for installation is 2.7 GB, with a separate 2.8 GB assembly available for wearable devices in a Gamemode style.

The default distribution planner includes the “bore” problem planner, optimized to reduce desktop delays and prioritize interactive processes. Additionally, LTO-optimization and PGO optimization or “bolt” are included in the kernel and packages, catering to processors based on microarchitectures X86-64-V3, X86-64-V4 and Zen4. The distribution also features the Cachy-Browser Web browser, based on Firefox with enhanced security patches and performance boosts. Supported file systems include BTRFS, ZFS, EXT4, XFS and F2FS.

Significant changes in this release include:

  • The bootloader limine now supports boot menu themes and works on BIOS and UEFI systems.
  • A feature similar to grub-btrfs for Limine allows automatic loading of different system states saved using Snopshot mechanisms in the BTRFS file system. Snapshots are created by default on all BTRFS installations.
  • The addition of the “Cachyos-Samba-Settings” package simplifies Samba network settings with a configurator.
  • GSP interrogations have been reinstated for the NVIDIA driver, resolving issues from recent firmware updates.
  • The ASUS ARMOURY driver enables power management and cooler control on ASUS laptops and ROG ALLYA gaming consoles.
  • In UDEV, default loading of the NTFS3 kernel driver for the NTFS file system has been halted due to user-related problems.
