KDE Rolls Out FIFO Protocol, Boosts Display Setup

Nate Graham, a developer engaged in quality control in the KDE project, published the next report on the development of KDE. Among the changes added to the branch on the basis of which the release of KDE Plasma 6.4.0 is formed:

  • Added support Wayland Protocol fifo , which allows the use of fifo-mechanism for processing the renewal of displayed surface content. This protocol enables the expectation of the completion of the vertical deployment (VBLANK) when withdrawing, eliminating the need for callback-calls for each new frame display, thus reducing GPU load when using VSYNC.
  • In the configurator improved interface of the display settings page. In systems with one screen, selection of screens layout area is now hidden. In multi-monitor configurations, the current screen is released, and connected but not activated screens are presented.
  • Added support for the XDG portal clipboard , providing access to the exchange buffet for applications in isolated environments, such as those in Flatpak.
  • Significantly increased the performance of screens using VP9 video format (applied by default).
  • Ensured maintenance of interactive buttons in notifications shown in pop-up windows with notification history.
