Q4OS 5.8 Launches with Trinity User Environment

The latest release of the Q4OS distribution, version 5.8, has been announced. This distribution is based on the Debian package base and comes equipped with the desktop environments KDE Plasma 5 and Trinity, which continues the development of the code base KDE 3.5.x. Users have the flexibility to have both environments coexist on the system and switch between them seamlessly. Q4OS is designed to be light on hardware resources and offers a classic desktop design. The download size of the image is 1.5 GB for x86_64 architecture.

Q4OS 5.8 includes a variety of essential applications such as ‘Desktop Profiler’ for quick software installation, ‘Setup Utility’ for third-party app installations, ‘Software Center’ for additional program installation, ‘WelCome Screen’ for initial setup, Lookswitcher for changing the appearance quickly, and scripts for installing alternative environments like LXQT, XFCE, and LXDE. Additionally, there is an application available for installing the distribution in a separate Windows directory, allowing users to run Q4OS alongside Windows without the need for a separate disk partition.

The latest version of Q4OS updates the package base to Debian 12.10 with the Linux 6.1.0-32 kernel. The application settings setup in ‘Desktop Profiler’ have been enhanced to work in multi-window mode and now support Flatpak format packages.

Furthermore, dedicated enthusiasts have developed Q4OS assemblies with interfaces styled after Windows XP and Windows 10.
