Arynos 2025.03 Debuts as Serpent OS Rebranded

Aerynos presented the distribution Aerynos 2025.03, which was the first update after renaming the SERPENT OS project. The distribution utilizes its own package manager and an atomic system for updating the system. The development is led by the original team of the Solus distribution, including Aiki Dorty, the creator of Solus, and Joshua Strobl, the key developer of the Budgie desktop environment. Assemblies are available for the X86_64-V2 architecture and come equipped with the GNOME desktop. Notable new package versions include Linux 6.13.8, Gnome 48.0, Mesa 25.0.2, Firefox 136.0.2, Vulkan SDK 1.4.309.0, and LLVM 19.1.7.

The distribution utilizes the package manager Moss, which includes its own stone packages and tools for system management. Deduplication based on hard links is employed to conserve disk space when storing multiple package versions. Updates are executed in an atomic mode, involving replacement of the contents of the /USR section. In case of update installation failure, the system seamlessly reverts to its previous working state.

The majority of packages, including the Linux kernel, are compiled using the Clang compiler. With the exception of the kernel and certain system components, changes take effect on the fly without requiring a system reboot. The project is also developing the installer Lichen, the assembly system Boulder, the control panel Summit, the download manager Blsforme, and the container system Moss-container.
