Honor, once a subsidiary of Huawei, is making significant strides in establishing itself as an independent entity after separating from the Chinese tech giant. During the exhibition at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, the company announced its ambitions to compete not only with leading brands in the Android devices market but also with all developers of AI-based solutions. They have allocated $10 billion towards creating and enhancing their own smart technologies.
While Honor did not unveil any new phones at MWC 2025 (having already introduced the flagship Magic 7 Pro in January), the team discussed their ambitious plans for the future. In collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, Honor is already working on developing a new generation of intelligent smartphones. These devices will feature a revolutionary system of user interaction where the main interface will be an AI assistant instead of traditional applications.
“We are working on deep integration of gemini AI models in Honor solutions to create unprecedented opportunities for users around the world while ensuring data safety and confidentiality,” said Matt Waldbusser, Managing Director of Consumer Google Cloud.
The new digital assistant in Honor’s upcoming devices will independently manage installed programs, select the appropriate applications, and fulfill user requests without needing guidance. This initiative is part of the Alpha Plan, a comprehensive strategy introduced by the new CEO, James Lee, to create an ecosystem of intelligent services across various platforms. An initial implementation of this concept is the technology for fast file transfer between iOS and Android devices.
In addition to software innovations, Honor is extending support for its smartphones. Users can now expect updates to the Android OS and security patches for up to seven years, an increase from the previous five-year support period. Owners of the Magic 7 Pro flagship model will also enjoy new AI features like photo restoration technology and dipteum identification tools.
At the exhibition, Honor also expanded its product line with new offerings. These include the Earbuds Open wireless headphones priced at 149 euros, the Watch 5 Ultra smartwatch costing 279 euros, and the Pad V9 tablet available for 250 euros. Coming soon to the lineup is the MagicBook Pro 14.
