Thunderbird 136.0, developed by the community forces and based on Mozilla technology, has been released. Thunderbird 136 is built on the Firefox 136 code base and is classified as intermediate versions, with updates produced until the next release. This release follows the release of Thunderbird 128.8.0, which is an ESR version with long-term support.
The publication of Thunderbird 136.0 signifies a change in the approach to the formation of releases. In addition to the previous scheme of forming a significant release once a year based on Firefox ESR vehicles, significant releases will now also be published monthly and based on Firefox releases with the usual escort time. Previous assemblies based on the usual issues of Firefox were considered test versions and came with a special warning. Thunderbird 136 is now proposed by default for testing without any special markings on the appointment. The formation and support of Thunderbird ESR will continue alongside the new release schedule.
The transition to monthly significant releases is expected to accelerate the introduction of new features, make the transition to new issues smoother, and expand the range of errors corrected in each update. Previously, only vulnerabilities and serious problems were addressed in ESR updates.
Key changes in Thunderbird 136 include improved implementation of the dark design mode, global control of sorting and threading of messages, enhanced functionality in the context menu of the mail folders panel, support for horizontal scrolling in the message list interface, and the ability to install and remove color coding for all calendars in the calendar-planner master.
