The Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation is considering the possibility of conducting a joint experiment with marketplaces to introduce the function of self-preparation or limits for purchases on online platforms. This proposal was outlined in the official response of the ministry to an appeal from State Duma deputy Vladislav Davankov, a member of the New People party, aimed at protecting citizens from impulsive expenses.
The initiative suggested by Davankov involves implementing a self-embodiment mechanism for purchases in online stores. The ministry’s response indicates that the experiment could involve voluntary self-limitation or setting limits for purchases to assess its effectiveness. The Ministry is in support of the initiative and is willing to contribute to developing mechanisms to protect consumers from potential social and financial risks.
The ministry also emphasized the importance of studying law enforcement practices following the introduction of legislative changes related to self-assignment for consumer loans and microloans, as well as the ban on gambling. These insights will inform the development of consumer protection mechanisms concerning self-embodiment for online purchases.
In addition, the Ministry of Economic Development highlighted that the regulations being developed target a broad spectrum of digital platforms, not limited to just marketplaces but also encompassing other intermediary platforms offering services and work opportunities. This move indicates a comprehensive approach to protecting consumers in the digital marketplace.
