Issue Samba 4.22.0

After 6 months of development presentation, release Samba 4.22.0 has been announced. This release continues the development of the Samba 4 branch, fully implementing the Domain and Service controller Active Directory. It is compatible with Windows 2008 and supports all Microsoft versions of Windows Clients, including Windows 11. Samba 4 is a multifunctional high-quality product that also serves as a file server, print server, and Winbind server.

Key changes in Samba 4.22.0 include:

  • SMB3 protocol now supports Directory Leases, allowing metadata caching on the client side. This feature reduces the number of requests from the client to the server, enhancing performance for scenarios like home directories or shared read-only data.
  • Added support for sending “Netlogon Ping” requests over LDAP and LDAPS protocols to check domain controller availability. This feature provides information about domain controllers even when UDP ports are blocked.
  • Experimental support for Azure Entra ID authentication using the himmelblaud background process. New configuration parameters have been added for this feature.
  • Enhanced productivity for updating and setting up the schema in the Active Directory domain.
  • The “NMBD Proxy Logon” setting has been introduced in place of the NBT server.
  • The “Cldap Port” parameter has been removed as CLDAP always uses UDP port 389.
  • The problematic “Fruit: posix_rename” option in the VFS_fruit VFS module has been eliminated.
