Layerx Warns: Traditional IT Security Fails Against AI

Generative artificial intelligence (Genai) is increasingly being utilized as a business tool by companies, with many either already implementing such solutions or actively exploring the possibilities of integration. Despite the growing interest in Genai, there is still a lack of reliable data regarding its actual usage and associated risks.

A report titled “Enterprise Genai Data Security Report. 2025”, produced by Layerx, aims to address this gap in knowledge. The study, which is based on an analysis of corporate clients, provides insights into how employees are using Genai in their day-to-day tasks. Surprisingly, the report reveals that nearly 90% of Genai usage occurs without oversight from IT departments, posing serious risks such as data leaks and unauthorized access.

Despite the hype surrounding Genai, its adoption in corporate settings remains relatively low. Currently, only 15% of employees are using such tools on a daily basis. However, the report predicts a rapid increase in usage, especially considering that 50% of users are already accessing Genai at least once every two weeks.

The report highlights software developers as a key user group, making up 39% of regular Genai users. This raises concerns about the potential leakage of source code and the introduction of dangerous elements into corporate projects.

One of the main challenges identified in the report is the use of Genai through personal accounts and unmonitored channels, bypassing IT department controls. Layerx’s technology allows them to track such instances, revealing that 72% of employees utilize Genai tools like ChatGPT through personal accounts, with only 12% using corporate accounts with single sign-on (SSO).

This lack of visibility into almost 90% of Genai usage poses significant security risks for companies, especially when employees are entering confidential information multiple times a day, including business data, client details, financial plans, and source code.

Traditional security measures are often insufficient to protect against modern work processes. Layerx recommends the implementation of browser solutions to monitor the use of AI applications like ChatGPT, ensuring a more secure environment for users.

While the adoption of Genai presents new business opportunities, companies must establish robust security strategies to mitigate risks associated with data leakage and unauthorized access. Adapting protection systems now is crucial for leveraging artificial intelligence’s potential while safeguarding against potential threats.
