Jolla presented the release of the Sailfish 5.0 operating system. The assemblies are prepared for 16 devices, including Jolla C2, Sony Xperia 10, and Sony Xperia XA2. This is the first release of the platform after business restructuring companies Jolla in 2023, its withdrawal from the zone of influence of Russian investors, and the cessation of cooperation with the developers of the Aurora.
Sailfish utilizes a graphic glass based on Wayland and the QT5 libraries. The system environment is built on the basis of MER, which has been developing as an integral part of Sailfish and the Nemo Mer Distribution Packs since April 2019. The user shell, basic mobile applications, QML components of the construction of the Silica graphic interface, a layer for launching Android Applications, the smart input of text, and the data synchronization system are proprietary, but their code was planned to be opened back in 2017.
The main changes:
- Added support for the personal AI assistant Jolla Mind2 and smartphone Jolla c2 (founded on the Turkish smartphone Reeder S19 Max Pro S).
- Added support for VPN Wireguard.
- A new landscape mode is implemented, available for the home screen, system blocking, event list, and alarm clock.
- Added the function of blocking unwanted calls, allowing filtering of incoming calls from specified numbers.
