An updated version of the lightweight window manager ICEWM, labeled as 3.7.0, has been released. ICEWM offers users complete control through keyboard shortcuts, supports virtual desktops, task and menu panels, and allows for window grouping using tabs. Setting up the window manager is straightforward through a configuration file and the option to use different themes. It also supports window tab combinations and includes built-in applets for monitoring CPU, memory, and network traffic. Third-party GUI tools are available for desktop customization and menu editing. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPL v2 license.
In this latest release, some notable changes include:
- Added COLORQUCSWITCHBORDER Setting to customize the color of the frame interface between windows.
- Introduced the ability to apply widgets on the task panel for monitoring CPU, memory, network activity, and power consumption.
- Implemented a feature in the hotkey settings where a single rule can be used for processing key strokes associated with the same symbol.
- Added support for the operation “_net_wm_moVeresize_cancel”.
- The ICSH team included the option to wait and select new client windows using the -Await command. UTF-8 encoding is now permitted in ICESH.
- Enhanced support for moving open windows to full screen by holding the SHIFT key.
- Icewmbg now supports images in AVIF format.
- Expanded capabilities of the Icewm-menu-fdo menu generator.
