Myanmar Military Rescues Foreign Cyber Fraud Victims

Myanmar power are ready to transfer about 1030 foreign citizens saved from cyberMoshenic centers near the border with Thailand. Over the past 3 weeks, the military freed 1030 people, already deporting 61 of them. The rest will be sent to their homeland after confirmation of the personality.

Citizens of China, India, and East Africa became victims of fraudulent schemes. A large-scale operation against online fraud was initiated after pressure from neighboring states, especially Thailand and China. In particular, the reason for active actions was the abduction and forced work of the famous Chinese actor in one of these centers.

The military held raids in the east of the country and in the state of Shan, Myanmar, and also attacked the area of Shve-Kokko, Myanmar, controlled by the pro-government armed group – the Kayin border troops. A group of militias said that she intends to gradually deport 10,000 foreigners, forced to work in fraudulent centers. The process will be coordinated with China, Thailand and the Myanmar government.

Thailand, in turn, introduced strict measures against criminal networks, turning off electricity, Internet and fuel supply to the areas where cybercriminals were based. This forced part of the groups to curtail activities. The support of such measures was made by the Chairman of the PRC Xi Jinping during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Thailand Patongtan Chinavat.

In parallel, the Chinese Deputy Minister of Public Security Liu Zhunya personally controlled the transfer process of 300 rescued citizens of China, arriving at the headquarters of one of the ethnic armies at the border with Thailand.

Fraudulent schemes growing in Southeast Asia, especially in Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, have become a multi-billion dollar industry. Behind them, as a rule, are Chinese fugitives who left the country after anti-corruption scores in 2020. Criminal networks found shelter in the areas of Myanmar, where the central authorities lose control of the territories due to armed conflicts.
