The package issue published contains Wayland-Protocols 1.41 which includes a set of protocols and extensions that complement the base protocol of Wayland, providing important opportunities for building composite servers and user environments.
In the latest version of the “Staging” category, the color-management protocol has been added. Developed since 2014, this protocol allows for controlling color support for an expanded dynamic brightness range (HDR, High Dynamic Range). Client applications can now receive information about output device color properties and transmit their own content color properties to the composite server. This data can be used to automatically adjust color when displaying content on various output devices, such as converting content for HDR monitors using ICC profiles to describe color spaces.
Currently, Wayland-Protocols includes several stable protocols to ensure reverse compatibility:
- “ viewPorter ” – allows scaling actions and cutting surface edges on the server side.
- “ presentation-time ” – ensures proper video display.
- “ xdg-shhell ” – interface for creating and interacting with surfaces as windows.
- “ linux-dmabuf ” – allows joint use of multiple video cards using DMA-Buf technology.
- “ tablet ” – for organizing input from graphic tablets.
