Investigation Launched Against Chinese AI Company by Texas Prosecutor |
---|
Texas Prosecutor Ken Pacston announced the launch of an investigation against the Chinese company Deepseek, citing concerns over potential violations of data confidentiality laws. The prosecutor’s office has also requested assistance from tech giants Google and Apple to analyze the DeepSeek application and provide necessary documentation for its presence in app stores. Pacston expressed fears that DeepSeek could be used to undermine US artificial intelligence capabilities and gather data from American citizens on behalf of the Chinese government. As a result, he urged tech companies to cooperate and share relevant information. Representatives from DeepSeek, Google, and Apple have yet to respond to the situation. The apprehension surrounding DeepSeek has prompted several countries, including New York and South Korea, to impose bans on the application. Australia, Italy, and Taiwan have also taken steps to restrict the use of DeepSeek. Additionally, a proposed bill at the federal level seeks to prohibit civil servants from using such applications. In a related development, American Senator Josh Hawly has introduced a bill that aims to ban the import and export of artificial intelligence technologies between the US and China. Should the bill pass, individuals downloading Deepseek or its models could face severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to 20 years and fines reaching a million dollars. |
