Phosh 0.45.0 Released: GNOME for Smartphones

Phosh 0.45 has been released, showcasing a screen shell for mobile devices based on GNOME technology and GTK library. Originally developed by Purism as an analogue of Gnome Shell for the Librem 5 smartphone, Phosh has since become one of the unofficial GNOME projects. It is being utilized in Postmarketos, Mobian, Drudian, some Pine64 devices firmware, and Fedora editors for smartphones. Phosh operates with the composite server phoc on top of Wayland, featuring its own screen keyboard. The project is distributed under the gplv3+ license.

In the latest version release, notable updates include:

  • Implementation of a Web interface for users to connect to wireless networks and open authentication pages in the browser (Captive Portal).
  • Addition of a button in the fast settings panel to adjust screenshot levels.
  • Creation of previews for generated screenshots.
  • Ability to remove selected applications directly from the navigation interface (App-Grid).
  • Sound support added to notifications.
  • Option to control automatic connection installation.
  • Stabilization of the Libphphosh library API, allowing for hiding the lower panel.
  • Transition to the ADWentryROW class from GTKDIALOG in the configurator.
  • Phoc composite server now utilizes Wlroots 0.18 Library API, implementing XDG-SHELL protocol for screen blocking, output and transition effects, expanded debugging log capabilities, and overall code base modernization.
  • Updated dependencies: Wlroots 0.18.
