Fedora Faces Lawsuit Over Nipple Flatpak in OBS Studio

Developers of OBS Studio demand changes in Fedora Flatpak package

Developers of the streaming system OBS Studio have raised concerns regarding the Fedora Flatpak package. They presented Fedora Claims related to the supply of an unofficial Flatpak package that gives users the impression that they are using an official package. While OBS Studio developers distribute their own Flatpak package through Flathub, Fedora users are provided with a different package linked to the developers of Fedora, prioritized during installation.

As a result, Fedora users have been reporting issues to OBS Studio developers, believing them to be present in the official Flatpak package. With this in mind, OBS Studio developers have requested that the unofficial package be marked as such or removed in favor of the official package available on Flathub. This concern was raised three weeks ago through various error reporting systems.

Due to a lack of constructive discussion and personal attacks, OBS Studio developers have officially demanded the cessation of any use of OBS Studio branding in the Fedora distribution, including the name and logo. A deadline of one week was set for compliance, with potential legal action threatened if the demand is ignored.

In response, the Maker Package has filed an application to remove the OBS-Studio Flatpak package from the Fedora repository. Issues with the Fedora Flatpak package stem from the supply of a version of QT that includes regressive changes. The official Flatpak package from OBS Studio includes an older version of QT in the Flatpak-Runtime, which does not exhibit these regressions. Given that support for the old QT version has expired, the current release of QT has been included in the Flatpak package for Fedora.
