MAXAR is developing 3D cartography technology, which will allow accurate navigation without the use of GPS. A new tool called Pinpoint will compare data from sensors with a detailed three -dimensional map of the planet.
According to Defense One, development can become an alternative to GPS navigation, which is vulnerable to mock a signal. The company plans to complete several pilot programs and make the tool widely accessible next year.
The technology is based on the PRECISION3D Registration (P3DR) system – an autonomous software solution for the automatic geoption of images to the global 3D model of the Earth. The system provides a resolution of 50 centimeters or higher and accuracy up to 3 meters for all measurements.
MAXAR Main Director Peter Wilchinski noted in an interview with Defense One that there is a transition from the absolute navigation system GPS to a more reference navigation system, similar to orientation of sea vessels by stars.
