RADV Mesa Driver Gains Vulkan 1.3 for Older AMD GPUs

The Khronos Consortium, a developer of graphic standards, has officially recognized the full compatibility of the open driver developed by the project radv with the Vulkan 1.3 specification. The driver successfully passed all tests from the Khronos Conformance Test Suite (CTS) and is now included in the list of certified drivers. This certification allows for the official declaration of compatibility with graphic standards and the use of related Khronos brands.

The certification process was conducted on systems featuring Intel Core i7-8700K, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950x, and AMD Ryzen 9 3900x processors. Certification was granted for older generations of AMD GPUs – GCN 1.0/GFX6 and GCN 1.1/GFX7, which were produced before the introduction of the Vulkan graphics API.

During the certification of the RADV driver, the following video cards were mentioned:

  • amd Radeon HD 7790
  • amd Radeon HD 7850
  • amd Radeon HD 7870
  • amd Radeon HD 7870 XT
  • amd Radeon HD 7950
