AI-Enhanced Rat Solves Scientific Puzzles First

The Russian Biotechnical Laboratory Neiray, together with scientists from Moscow State University, first connected the Rat brain to artificial intelligence (AI) in the world. A rat named Pythia was able to correctly answer hundreds of scientific questions – about quasars, myelin shells, Python language and the date of birth of Albert Einstein, the laboratory website said.

, in the framework of the project called “Iintuction”, researchers introduced into the rat’s brain an invasive neuro interface that interacts with AI. Scientists verbally asked the rat question, and AI prompted the correct answer with the help of electrical stimulation of the brain. For the rat, “Hint from AI” looks like sensations in the body. She experiences certain sensations in a certain place when it is necessary to answer “yes”, and in another – when the answer is “no”. For the correct answer, Pythia receives a reward.

So the rat was able to answer questions on various fields of knowledge – from physics and history to mathematics and neurophysiology.

The experiment continues daily, and the number of rats with a neuro interface gradually increases. In the future, such a technology is planned to apply to a person with an implanted neuro interface.

The head of the laboratory for the development of invasive neuro -interfaces of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Moscow State University, Vasily Popkov, said that the goal of the experiment was to demonstrate the possibility of uniting natural and artificial intelligence. He also noted that the laboratory plans have more complex projects for the interaction of AI and the brain.

Mikhail Lebedev, professor of Moscow State University, noted the importance of an experiment to understand the prospects of the coexistence of mankind and AI. He suggested that in the future, artificial and natural intelligence will perform different functions: AI will process large arrays of information, and the human brain is focused on creative and intuitive tasks.

Pythia’s experiment is part of a joint research project of Neiry and Moscow State University to develop invasive neuro interfaces. The ultimate goal is to create a user product to combine the human brain with the knowledge of all mankind.

Neiry General Alexander Panov said that in the future, users will be able to intuitively determine the truth of any statement or find the right answers in tests. He emphasized that the project promotes the evolutionary development of mankind, promoting it to the stage of symbiosis with AI.

The experiment was presented at the annual meeting of the Neiraroundb shareholders. The results are planned to be published in scientific publications, and the team prepares a series of new announcements.
