After six months of development, the project ubports has presented firmware OTA-6 FOCAL, the sixth issue of Ubuntu Touch based on the Ubuntu package base 04.04. Following Canonical’s discontinuation of development, ubports has taken over the Ubuntu Touch mobile platform. The project is also developing an experimental port of the desktop unity 8, which has been renamed to lomiri.
Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 Focal is set to be available soon for devices such as Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F (X) Tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, OnePlus 5/5t/6T, OnePlus N10 5G/N100, SONY XPERIA X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, and Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC/X3.
The latest release focuses on preparing for the transition to a new Ubuntu LTS-vehicle. Some of the key changes in Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 Focal include:
- Began the formation of assemblies for smartphones OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100.
- The system has been adapted to new editions of Android Hal (Hardware Abstraction Layer) for added support for devices like Fairphone 5 and Volla Phone Quintus.
- Increased stability with wireless screens.
- Transferred OFONO-Binder-Plugin and OFONO-Binder-Plugin-EXT-MTK packages in assemblies based on Android 9.
- Fixed accumulated errors.
- Implemented support for VOLTE for smartphones Volla Phone X23 and Volla Phone 22, but the feature has been delayed until the next release.
