Nearly 50% of Russians Back Social Media Limits for Teens

Superjob Search Service conducted a study of Russians relations to a possible ban on social networks for adolescents under 16 years of age. The reason for the survey was the initiative of the Australian authorities, where they plan to adopt a similar law to protect the young generation from the negative influence of social networks.

According to the results of the study, 44% of Russians would support the introduction of such restrictions in the country. The main arguments of supporters of the ban was to protect children from undesirable content and the opportunity to devote more time to study. 35% of respondents spoke out against restrictions, arguing the position of inefficiency of the complete ban and the need for point blocking of harmful information. The remaining 21% of the survey participants could not decide on the position.

It is noteworthy that women are much more often protruding – 51% versus 36% among men. The most active supporters of the ban were Russians 35-45 years old – 54% of representatives of this age group supported the initiative.

Among parents of school children (7-16 years old), the prohibition support level was 46%. 34% of parents spoke out against restrictions, another 20% found it difficult to answer. With a almost equal number of supporters of the ban among fathers and mothers (46% and 48%, respectively), mothers less often opposed restrictions – 24% compared to 39% among fathers.

The study was conducted from November 8 to 11, 2024 in all federal districts of Russia. The survey was attended by 1600 representatives of an economically active population over 18 years of 354 settlements of the country.
