After a year of development, the Linux-Distribution Backbox Linux 9 has been released. This new version is based on Ubuntu 24.04 and comes equipped with a collection of tools that focus on system security checking, testing exploits, reverse engineering, network traffic and wireless network analysis, studying malicious software, stress testing, and identifying hidden or lost data. The user environment in Backbox Linux 9 is based on XFCE, and the size of the ISO-image is 6 GB for x86_64 systems.
The latest version of Backbox Linux 9 showcases a transition to the Ubuntu package base 24.04, updates to the XFCE environment, Linux kernel 6.8, new versions of security tools, and improved work in anonymous mode.
On the other hand, Parrot 6.2 has also been released recently. Based on the Debian 12 package base, Parrot includes a selection of tools for security system checks, forensic analysis, and reverse engineering. Positioned as a portable laboratory for security experts and forensics professionals, Parrot focuses on tools to check cloud systems and internet-connected devices. The distribution also features cryptographic tools and programs for secure networking, including TOR, I2P, Anonsurf, GPG, tccf (Two Cents Cryptography Frontend), Zulucrypt, Veracrypt, TrueCrypt, and LUKS.
