Fedora Magazine announced the release of the distribution Fedora Linux 41. To download the available products like Fedora Workstation, Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, Fedora Cloud Base, Fedora IoT Edition, Fedora Silverblue, Fedora Kinoite, and Live images with spins for KDE Plasma, XFCE, MATE, Cinnamon, LXDE, Phosh, Pantheon, LXQt, Budgie, and Sway are available for download. These versions are designed for X86_64, Power64, and ARM64 (AARCH64) architectures.
The key changes in Fedora Linux 41 are:
- By default, DNF5 package manager is used in Fedora Linux 41, which unifies low-level libraries and components that were previously written in Python are now rewritten in C++. This change led to a reduction in dependencies, tool size, and enhanced performance. DNF5 tools are no longer tied to Packagekit and instead use the new DNF Daemon background process for package management in the graphical environment. User-visible improvements include visual progress indicators during operations, support for local RPM packages, displaying transaction information from package scripts, and an advanced autocompletion system for bash.
- An official Spin edition has been created with a graphical environment based on the Wayland protocol and utilizes components to build composite managers like Mir. The goal is to provide a functional and visually appealing user environment with a mosaic window layout and enhanced graphic design with visual effects.
- Gnome desktop in Fedora Workstation has been updated to version 47, introducing new dialogue window styles, improved performance on low-screen systems, hardware acceleration for video encoding during screen recording, and revamped file save dialogs.
