Developers from the project almalinux published the first release of the new distribution Kitten 10. This distribution is based on the CentOS Stream 10 package base, which is being used to develop the upcoming significant release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. Kitten 10 serves as a test distribution that allows users to explore the features being developed for RHEL 10, acting as a precursor to the future stable release of Almalinux 10. Installation images for the distribution are available for various architectures, including x86_64, x86_64_v2, AARCH64, PPC64le, and S390X.
The Kitten repository follows a continuous packet updating model, with installation images being updated every three months. The repositories for Kitten are used as upstream sources for the Almalinux 10 branch – any fixes or new features are first tested in the Kitten repository before being implemented in Almalinux. Additionally, the Kitten repositories are a platform for collaboration and integration with other projects such as CentOS Stream and Fedora.
