Romanian footballer Florinel Coman signed a contract this summer with Qatari club Al-Gharafa. According to the agreement, Al-Gharafa was supposed to pay Coman’s former club, FK Steaua Bucuresti (FKSB), 5.25 million euros. However, FKSB’s owner, Gigi Becali, revealed that the club has not received the payment, leading to an unexpected turn of events.
Becali explained that Qatari representatives claimed that hackers had infiltrated their email system and rerouted the payment to an incorrect account, possibly in Vietnam. As a result of the missed payment deadline set for July 31, FKSB is now seeking compensation of 6.25 million euros, including a penalty for the delay. Becali has already lodged a complaint with FIFA, demanding full payment and expressing impatience with the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, Coman has already made his debut for Al-Gharafa, scoring a goal from a penalty kick in his first match against Apollo Limassol of Cyprus on July 31. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, showcasing Coman’s immediate impact with his new team. His contract with Al-Gharafa is set to run until June 2027, with the option of an extension for an additional year.
