In a recent news release, the team behind Tails has announced the launch of a specialized distribution called Tails 6.6 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System). This new version is based on the Debian 12 package base, comes with the GNOME 43 desktop, and is designed for anonymous internet browsing. Tails provides users with an anonymous exit to the network through the Tor system, blocking all connections except traffic via the Tor network by default. User data is encrypted for storage between launches to ensure privacy and security. The ISO-image for Tails 6.6, which can be used in live-mode, is 1 GB in size and can be downloaded here.
The new version of Tails also includes updates to the Tor browser, now at version 13.5.2, the mail client Thunderbird 115.14.0, and firmware packages. This update brings improved support for new graphic cards and wireless adapters, allowing users to use multiple network interfaces simultaneously. The maximum waiting time before an error is displayed when the constant storage cannot be unlocked has been increased to 4 minutes for improved user experience. Additionally, the reliability of creating a permanent storage at the first launch from a USB drive has been enhanced. The issue of connecting to the Tor network using the default set of bridge nodes has also been resolved. For more details on the updates, click here.
