Minetest 5.9.0: Free Station Game Engine Released

After nine months of development published release minetest 5.9.0, a free cross-platform game engine in the genre Sandshore. This engine allows you to create games in the style of Minecraft using various station blocks to form structures and buildings in a virtual world. The gameplay depends on mods created in the Lua language. Minetest is written in C++ using 3D libraries like Irrlicht (Fork irrlicht). The Minetest code is distributed under the LGPL license, while game resources are under the CC by-SA 3.0 license. Ready assemblies are available for Linux, Android, FreeBSD, Windows, and MacOS.

The main changes include:

  • Added support for the Shader “God Rays”, also known as “voluminous lighting”.
  • The Lua Mapgen generator execution is now in a separate thread
