Signal Messenger Hit by Major Outage in Russia

On August 9, 2024, users across Russia encountered issues with the functioning of the popular Signal messenger. Many users experienced difficulties in sending and receiving messages, while some were unable to log into the application altogether.

According to reports from the service downtime monitor, there has been a significant surge in complaints related to Signal this morning.

Most of the complaints are originating from Moscow (47%) and St. Petersburg (10%). Problems have also been noted in regions such as the Krasnodar Territory, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, and others across Russia.

Users have cited a variety of issues. Many are unable to send or receive messages, while some are encountering difficulties with logging in or receiving confirmation codes. Interestingly, some users have found that Signal works through VPN, but access to the messenger is completely blocked without it.

As of now, the reasons behind the outage remain unknown.
