NITROX 3.6.0 Launches with NX Desktop Environment

Nitrux has recently released version 3.6.0 of its distribution, which is based on the DEBIAN package base, utilizes KDE technologies, and is built on the openrc initialization system. The project features its own desktop, the nx desktop, which is a superstructure over KDE Plasma. Developing applications are based on the library maui, allowing for typical user applications to be used on both desktop systems and mobile devices. The distribution also offers a system of self-sufficient Appimages packages for installing additional applications, with the full loading image sized at 3 GB. Nitrux’s projects are distributed under free licenses.

The NX Desktop provides a unique design style, with its own system tray implementation, notification output center, and various plasmoids, including a network connections configurator and multimedia applet for volume regulation and control of multimedia content playback. Applications created using the mauikit framework include the Index file manager, Note text editor, Station terminal emulator, VVAVE Musical player, CLIP video player, NX Software Center application control center, and PIX Viewer.

The main innovations in Nitrux 3.6 include default involvement of the Linux 6.9 core with the liquorix patch, updated versions of packages like Mesa 24.1.3 and Firefox 128.0.3, as well as nuts 2.1.5 (Nitrux Update Tool System) and Apparmor 4.0.1. The user environment of the NX Desktop continues to use KDE Plasma 5.27.11, KDE Frameworks 5.115, and QT 5.15.13. Proprietary drivers for NVIDIA have been updated to version 560.28.03, with fresh GSP flashes for NVIDIA GPUs. Updates have also been made for AMD and Intel processors, along with new firmware for wireless adaptors, GPUs, and sound cards in the Linux-Firmware package. To simplify support, additional packages for drivers have been split into Nitrux-Printer-Drivers and Nitrux-XSERVER-DRIVERS. The configuration of the Calamares installer now includes the Intel_Pstate module, which is used by default in the utility tlp.
