Amarok 3.1.0 Music Player Released

Development of Amarok 3.1.0 Musical Player Revived After Three Months

After three months of development, a new version of the popular musical player Amarok 3.1.0 has been released. Amarok was a well-loved player during the time of KDE 3 and KDE 4, but had been abandoned after the release of KDE 5. However, this year, the project has been revived and ported to QT5 and KDE Frameworks 5. The project code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

Amarok provides a three-panel mode of display of information, allowing users to navigate their music collection, tags, and individual catalogs. The player supports dynamic playlists, rapid creation of custom playback lists, automatic generation of recommendations, statistics, and ratings for popular compositions. It also supports loading songs, covers, and information certificates about compositions from various services, as well as automation of actions through scripting.

Several changes have been implemented in the new version of Amarok, including:

  • Adaptation and cleaning of the code base for support for QT6 and KDE Frameworks 6. The porting to QT 6 is still in progress, but it is a key task for the project.
  • Updated code integration with Last.fm, including support for the new authentication mechanism using tokens and improved error handling.
  • Reinstatement of the applet “Similar artists” to display information about similar musicians using data from Last.fm (
    ).
  • Memory of the previously used service to preserve the playback list.
  • Increased requirements for the KDE Frameworks version to 5.89 and removal of the dependency on the Attica framework.
  • Deletion of integration components with the old version of the Opendesktop.org website from the dialogue “On the program”.
  • Disabling of reproduction without pauses when turning on the Replay
