An available release of the mobile platform /e/os 2.2, aimed at maintaining the confidentiality of user data, has been launched. The platform, founded by Gael Duvans, the creator of the Mandrake Linux distribution, provides firmware for popular smartphone models, including Murena 2, Murena Fairphone 4/5, Murena Teracube 2e, and Murena Pixel 5. The platform also offers pre-installed firmware/E/OS for smartphones such as OnePlus, Fairphone, Taracube, and Pixel. With support for 250 smartphones, the platform aims to ensure user privacy.
The firmware /E /OS, developed as a branch from the Android platform using LineageOS developments, aims to block telemetry transmission to Google servers and maintain compatibility with Android applications. A MicroG Pack is preinstalled to interact with Google services, providing independent analogues instead of proprietary components. For example, the platform uses a unifiednlp layer to determine location without GPS and a metapoic service based on the Searx engine for anonymous search queries.
To enhance privacy, the platform uses NTP POOL PROJECT for time synchronization, a current provider instead of Google’s DNS servers, and an ad blocker in the default web browser to prevent tracking. Additionally, a personalized synchronization service has been developed for file and data synchronization with infrastructure based on Nextcloud. The server components are open-source and available for installation on user-controlled systems.
The user interface has been significantly redesigned with its own environment for launching applications called Blisslauncher, providing a unique experience for users.
