Mari El Hacker Condemned for Hacking Foreign Servers

A resident of Mari El has been found guilty of hacking foreign servers and has been sentenced by the Medvedevsky District Court for his involvement in creating, using, and distributing harmful computer programs. This case was reported by local media, citing the press service of the Federal Security Service of Russia in Mari El. The court found that from March 2021 to November 2023, the man used a special software to breach the servers of foreign states and obtain accounting data.

According to part 1 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, these actions are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 4 to 7 years or forced labor for up to 5 years. The specific punishment handed down by the court in this case has not been disclosed.
