KDE Eliminated, Wayland Support Enhanced

Nate Graham, a developer engaged in quality control in the KDE project, published another report on the development of KDE. Over the past two weeks, significant changes have been made in KDE, such as eliminating the five most common causes of emergency shutdowns in KDE Plasma. These issues were caused by errors in the KDE code and regressive changes in QT. To identify and address these problems, a new automatic system for sending notifications about issues was utilized.

Additionally, work was done to implement the Sticky Keys mechanism in KDE when using Wayland. This feature allows individuals with fine motor skill impairments to use key combinations that require multiple simultaneous key presses. In Sticky Keys mode, modifier keys like SHIFT, CTRL, ALT can be pressed in advance and remembered for the next key press.

Other changes in the KDE project include:

  • Added the option to compile Kwin with only Wayland support.
  • In the music player Elisa, the ability to add a track or album immediately after the current song in the playlist was implemented.
  • In the file manager Dolphin, a dialog with a button to install the application Filelight is shown when attempting to view free space information on the drive if Filelight is not installed.
  • Filelight received an update to the initial page shown when opening the application. View image
  • Gaps were removed during the display of information blocks in the Spectacle screenshot creation program. View image
  • An interface for calibrating graphic tablets was added to the configurator. Details
