In the aftermath of a recent global failure caused by an incorrect update of Falcon Sensor from Crowdstrike, Beijing is looking to capitalize on the situation to promote its cyber services while warning about the risks of dependence on Western technologies.
Last week, a massive failure of computers based on Windows affected 8.5 million devices in the USA and other countries, while only around 10 thousand devices were impacted in China. This difference is attributed to the lower dependence of Chinese computers on CROWDSTRIKE software.
Local Chinese IB companies like QAX and 360 Security Technology have seized on this incident to highlight the robustness of their products compared to American counterparts. State media in China is actively promoting the superiority of Chinese IB products, urging companies worldwide to consider switching to them to avoid future similar incidents.
Despite these claims, it is important to note that among the hundreds of IB companies globally, only Crowdstrike experienced this particular failure. In Russia, a similar situation occurred where local computers were minimally impacted due to the lack of Crowdstrike solutions being widely used.
