KDE Enhances User Interface

Nate Graham, a developer involved in quality control in the KDE project, has recently published another report on the development of KDE. In this update, several notable changes have been highlighted:

  • The emphasis on adhering to hig, or human interface guidelines, which dictate general templates and rules for designing the KDE application interface. This allows developers to maintain a consistent look across applications and integrate seamlessly with the KDE platform. The use of the Kirigami framework based on Qt Quick facilitates the creation of interfaces suitable for both desktops and mobile devices. A significant change includes the expansion of pages with recommendations for choosing icons and styles.
  • In Kwin, when dealing with large windows that exceed the minimum size for display, the headline no longer extends beyond the visible area. This improvement allows users to move windows without needing to drag them over the edge while holding the Alt key.
  • The terminal emulator konsole now features a button to automatically save the entire terminal output to a separate file. This addition enhances usability for users.
  • The program Info Center has added a separate page dedicated to memory information. This enhances the utility of the application for users seeking such details.
  • For distributions, the option to configure recommended applications displayed by default at Kickoff, Kicker, and Application Dashboard has been provided. This customization option enhances user experience and personalization.
  • In krunner, the quality of information on configurator pages has been improved. This enhancement aims to provide users with more accurate and relevant information.
  • A warning has been added to the settings of graphic tablets to alert users if the tablet does not support screen orientation shift. This addition enhances user experience and avoids potential issues.
  • The performance of the screen fade effect has been increased, taking into account animation speed settings. This improvement enhances visual appeal and overall user experience.
  • In the side panel of Places in the file manager, as well as in file save and open dialogues, display of pop-up tooltips with additional information has been added when using QT 6.8. This enhancement provides users with more context and guidance while navigating the interface.
