A year and a half after the formation of a last significant branch, Oracle presented the first Beta-release of virtualization system 7.1. The release is expected in the fall. Building with beta version of Virtualbox 7.1 prepared for rheel 7/8/9, fedora 35/36/40, Opensuse 15.3, Ubuntu 20.04/22.04/24.04, Debian 10/11/12, MacOS and Windows.
The main changes:
- The graphic interface is modernized. It is possible to choose between modes for ordinary and advanced users – in mode for ordinary users, part of the extended interface functions is hidden. The transition to a new version of the library Qt.
- Added a new engine for broadcasting addresses (NAT), supporting IPV6.
- In additions for guest systems and hosts based on Linux, the possibility of using a joint clipboard in graphic environment on the basis of the Wayland Protocol.
- Increased performance of the creation of the screenshots.
- For EFI, new Microsoft DB/Kex certificates used in new virtual machines.
- In components for integration with OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure), functions for cloning and resetting specimens of virtual machines are implemented. Data on the consumption of resources with local virtual machines was added to the information panel.
- In VRDE (Virtual Remote Desktop Extension), expansion for remote connection to a virtual machine using the RDP protocol, the use and maintenance of self -signed certificates for TLS is implemented if the user clearly did not add his own certificate.
- In the host’s environment from MacOS, deployed on systems with processors based on ARM architecture, the use of extensions available in ARM for virtualization when starting virtual machines with Linux and BSD systems.
