The Supreme Cassation Court of Kuwait has made a ruling in the case of a notorious Kuwaiti hacker who gained notoriety for hacking hundreds of websites around the world, including the Pentagon website.
The hacker was accused of penetrating the website of the US Department of Defense, accessing secret weapons information, and hacking into 200 American websites, some of which contained sensitive data belonging to the United States.
The Supreme Cassation Court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, stating that the 28-year-old accused cannot be held accountable for crimes committed between 2010 and 2012, citing the expiration of the statute of limitations.
On October 9, 2023, the International Criminal Court dismissed the criminal case against the hacker and also removed any accusations that Kuwait may have been at risk of a rift with the United States due to the hacking of the Ministry of Defense website.
Furthermore, the hacker was also accused of using a hacked site to fraudulently obtain money by enticing victims to subscribe to view content. However, the court ruled that the hacker could not be prosecuted due to the statute of limitations, leading to mixed reactions among the public and cybersecurity experts.
