WSL 2.3.11: New Nucleus Modules, Enhanced Interface

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) has been updated to version 2.3.11. The major update includes transitioning to kernel version 6.6.36.3, marking the completion of the update to the LTS release 6.6. Additionally, hundreds of new modules have been added to enhance the system’s functionality.

The graphical interface WSLG has also been upgraded to version 1.0.63. Users now have access to a new WSL-Manager-Move command and the WSL settings feature. However, the bridged networking mode still requires command line configuration as it is not available through the graphical interface.

Other key changes in this update include:

  • Update of microsoft.dxcore.linux to version 10.0.26100.1-240331-1435.ge-Release.
  • Expansion of the range of ephemeral ports for Linux.
  • Enhanced mirror routing mode for improved interaction between Windows hosts and Linux Docker/Podman containers.
  • Improved error output system when using the WSL.exe –Exec command.
  • Optimization of module loading process by moving it to earlier stages of system launch.
  • Resolution of localization issues with msrdc.exe files.
  • Enhancements to Virtio9p to address emerging issues.
  • Improved socket error detection for early identification.
  • Addition of error tracking system for WSLCONFIG opening.
  • Change in distribution algorithm to prioritize installation in RAM before direct loading.

It is important to note that version 2.3.11 is currently in the preliminary release stage. Users who prioritize work stability are advised to continue using the proven version 2.2.4 for now.
