The GNOME Foundation, responsible for overseeing the development of the GNOME desktop environment, recently made an announcement regarding a change in executive leadership. The executive director plays a vital role in managing and developing the GNOME Foundation organization, as well as in interacting with the board of directors, advisory council (Advisory Board), and members of the organization.
As of last October, Holly Million has been serving as the executive director, bringing a diverse range of interests to the position, from producing documentary films and creating art to founding the Institute of Shamanic Arts and Herbal Medicine. However, Million has decided to step down from the role in order to pursue a PhD in psychology and focus on developing a private practice.
Richard Littauer, an active member of the sustainoss community and a leader within organizations such as Curioss and the Open Source Collective, has been appointed as the Acting Executive Director of the GNOME Foundation. Littauer has contributed to projects like Node.js and IPFS, and his appointment is part of the organization’s search for a permanent executive director. A plan for finding a permanent director will be presented at the upcoming Guadec conference, scheduled to take place from July 19 to July 24.
