Recent data from Rosstat has revealed that the average salary in the IT sector is currently double the average for the overall economy. As of 2023, the average salary in the IT sector stood at 155.9 thousand rubles, marking a significant increase of 70% compared to 2019. This information was released by the Ministry of Construction of Russia in the latest edition of their “Analytics of the Minzifra” section.
By April 2024, the average salary in the IT industry had further risen to 188.7 thousand rubles, showing a 21% increase since January of the same year. In comparison, the average salary for the entire economy during the first four months of 2024 had only grown by 14%, amounting to 83.9 thousand rubles in April.
Specific regions in Russia have experienced particularly rapid growth in the IT sector. The top regions with the fastest growth in IT salaries include Lipetsk region, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Trans-Baikal Territory, Volgograd region, and Moscow region.
Not only have salaries in the IT sector seen significant growth, but the workforce in the industry is also expanding. Approximately one in ten graduates now holds an IT specialty, indicating a growing interest in IT careers. Over the past four years, the number of employees in the IT sector has increased by 1.5 times, reaching a total of 857 thousand people by the end of 2023.
