Google and Apple have jointly announced the launch of a new tool aimed at synchronizing cloud services for storing photos. This new tool, developed under the auspices of the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI), includes Apple, Meta, and Google. The primary objective of DTI is to ensure data portability between different services.
The new function will be gradually rolled out over the next week. Users interested in transferring data between Google and iCloud can access detailed instructions on the official websites of Apple and Google.
Previously, Apple allowed users to export photos and videos from iCloud to Google Photos. Now, with this new tool, users can transfer data in the opposite direction – from Google Photos to iCloud. However, an issue arises regarding storage limits. While the free Google Photos plan offers 15 GB of storage, iCloud is limited to 5 GB. Once users exceed their iCloud limit, Apple will prompt them to upgrade to paid plans starting at $0.99 per month for 50 GB of storage.
It is important to note that Meta and its products are regarded as extremist, and their activities are prohibited in the territory of the Russian Federation.
