Recently, the Linux-Distribution Clonezilla Live 3.1.3 was released, aimed at efficiently cloning discs by only copying the blocks that are in use. This distribution is comparable to the well-known proprietary product Norton Ghost. The ISO image of the distribution is 457MB in size and is available for i686 and AMD64 architectures, and can be downloaded from SourceForge.
Based on Debian GNU/Linux, Clonezilla Live utilizes code from various projects including DRBL, Partition Image, NTFSCLONE, PARTCLONE, and UDPCAST. It offers multiple options for downloading, such as CD/DVD, USB Flash, and network (PXE). It supports a wide range of file systems including LVM2, EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, Reiserfs, Reiser4, XFS, JFS, BTRFS, F2FS, NILFS2, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, Minix, VMFS3, and VMFS5 (VMware ESX).
One of the key features of Clonezilla Live is the ability to perform mass cloning over the network, including multicast traffic transmission, allowing for cloning of multiple client machines simultaneously. It supports cloning from one disk to another, as well as creating backup copies by maintaining disk images as files. Users can choose to clone entire disks or individual partitions.
The new version of Clonezilla Live includes the following updates:
- Synchronization with the DEBIAN SID package base as of June 28
- Update of the Linux kernel to version 6.9 (from 6.5)
- Update of Partclone tools to version 0.3.31
- Removal of Deborphan, Cpufrequtils packages (no longer available in Debian repositories), and Thin-Provisioning-Tools (due to dependency issues)
- Addition of the package yQ for processing Yaml, Json, XML, CSV, and Toml formats
- Update of Live-boot and live-config packages
- In Live-reduction for simplified debugging, an increase in the size of the data conservation buffer while scrolling contents on the screen
