A recent demonstration showcased the possibility of loading Arch Linux by storing the contents of the root section in Google Drive’s cloud storage. This innovative idea was realized by adding the Initramfs RAM-RIM to the image at an early loading stage, along with the fuse module google-drive-Ocamlfuse, which enables access to Google Drive as a virtual file system.
The virtual file system on Fuse was utilized to house the root section along with Arch Linux’s systemic environment. To set up the necessary components in initramfs, including configuring a network connection to access Google Drive, the tool Dracut was used.
Furthermore, by utilizing the Fuse module s3fs, this method can also be extended to cloud storage services that support the Amazon S3 API. This advancement opens up new possibilities for loading operating systems from cloud storage, offering flexibility and efficiency in system management.
