The musical player Foulin 0.5 has been released by Foyin. The development of this player started at the beginning of the year with the aim of providing users with the opportunity to customize and adapt the program according to their preferences. The player offers a set of widgets with various modes for managing music collections and playing music. Users can also add additional features through plugins. Configuration of the interface can be done using a special mode that allows editing the layout of elements on the screen. The project is written in C++ using QT and is licensed under GPLV3. Ready-made packages are available for Fedora, Debian, and Ubuntu, with plans to update the package in the Flatpak format.
The player supports file playing in various formats including FLAC, MP3, MP4, Vorbis, Opus, Wavpack, WAV, AIFF, MUSEPACK, and Monkey’s Audio. It can extract information about sound tracks from Cue files and export playback lists in M3U/m3U8 formats. The interface allows for filtering the music library, tree-like presentation of the collection, editing tags, creating and managing playlists, visualization using spectrograms, and navigation within the file system with direct playback of selected files. D-Bus interface MPRIS can be used for external control of the player.
The latest version of Foulin (0.5) has added support for CUE files, import/export of playlists, and an output mode displaying album covers. It now also supports the creation of plugins for tag analysis and sound format decoding. Files are remembered in the navigation mode, ensuring a seamless experience for users.
Future updates are expected to include features like sending statistics on music playback to services like Last.fm, volume normalization (Replaygain), advanced language search for creating smart playlists based on user criteria, loading album and song covers from external services, sound format conversion, metadata search, Internet radio playback, file playback from archives, plugins for sound processing, and different playback modes for different playlists.
