Spotify Under Siege: Who’s Behind Attack on Russian Rap Stars?

Large-Scale Cyber Attack Hits Russian Rap Artists’ Spotify Accounts
On Thursday night, a major cyber attack targeted the accounts of Russian rap artists on Spotify. The hackers, whose identity remains unknown, managed to breach the profiles of several artists, altering photos and posting a link to sell access to the compromised accounts. The affected artists include Glory to Marlowe, Soda Lav, Yaniks, Lida, Jizus, and 163onMyneck.
The absence of an official Spotify representative office in Russia has complicated the situation. Artists and their representatives will have to rely on contacting the support service through common channels, a process that may be time-consuming.
Spotify initially entered the Russian market in July 2020. However, in March 2022, the music streaming service announced the closure of its office in the Russian Federation indefinitely. By early February 2023, Spotify began the liquidation process of its legal entity, Spotifai LLC, in Russia. Consequently, in December 2023, Spotify officially ceased its operations in the country.
