Angie 1.6.0 Released, Russian Fork Nginx

WebServer LLC has recently published the release of a high-performance HTTP server and multi-purpose proxy server called Angie 1.6.0, which is a branch from Nginx developed by a group of former developers who resigned from F5 Network. The initial texts of Angie are available under the BSD license. The project has received compatibility certificates with Russian operating systems Red OS, Astra Linux Special Edition, Dew that Chrome Server, Alt, and FSTEK version of Alt.

The development of this web server started in the fall of 2022 and received an investment of $1 million. Among the co-owners of WebServer LLC are Valentin Bartenev (leader of the Nginx Unit team), Ivan Poluyanov (former head of front-line developers at Rambler and Mail.ru), Oleg Mamontov (head of the NGINX Inc technical support team), and [email protected].

Changes in Angie 1.6.0 include:

  • The addition of the “sticky” directive in the Upstream unit for binding all connections in a session to one server when balancing TCP and UDP streams.
  • Support for extracting cookie from the RDP payload using the “RD” directive in the Stream module.
  • Addition of command string options “-m” and “-m” to display the list of built-in and loaded modules.
  • Enhancement in the HTTP_ACME module for automating and updating certificates using the ACME protocol, with the ability to build with the Boringssl cryptographic library.
  • Allowance of multiple directives in “acme“.
