BEHIND SCENES OF DNS: MOBILE GADGET’S SECRET LIFE

A recent study conducted by Cybernews reveals that modern mobile applications are actively interacting with numerous Internet services, even when the phone is in standby mode. The study found that just one application installed on a smartphone can be connected to dozens of domains.

For example, installing popular apps like Instagram or Twitter on an iPhone can result in the device connecting to 10 domains for each application. In the case of Reddit, even without logging into an account, the number of domains for connection can exceed 30.

These numbers further escalate with the active use of devices and the installation of multiple applications. Over the course of a week, users may be surprised to discover that their smartphone has connected without their knowledge to hundreds of different domains.

A domain is essentially the address of a website, such as “Facebook.com” or “Google.com”. The system of domain names allows people to use memorable names instead of complex numerical IP addresses when accessing resources on the Internet.
